Notifications

Canvas is a great tool that allows you to keep up to date with the learning activities of your children.

However, the information it can provide may be overwhelming intially, so we suggest the first thing to do is to manage this flow of information. You can do this by setting up filters in your email to redirect the notifications to a specific folder OR you can tailor the settings to in Canvas to manage the notifications in the manner that suits you best. These notifications are best managed through the website version of Canvas.

Verify your email address.

Users who have not confirmed their email addresses in Canvas do not receive email notifications. If you notice that you are not receiving email notifications, please check to see if your email address is confirmed by clicking on Account > Settings in the upper left corner of Canvas.

In the right margin of the “Settings” page, click on the email address you need to confirm (the email address will appear in blue text).

Click on the email address you need to confirm.

In the “Confirm Email Address” window, click on the Re-send Confirmation link.

Click “Re-Send Confirmation” to receive a new confirmation email from Canvas.

Check your email inbox for the confirmation email and follow the instructions to finalize your email confirmation. If you do not see the email in your inbox, check your spam folder.

Changing notification settings using the web based version of Canvas

Hovering the mouse on each of the headings will give you details about what the particular notification will be about.

There are four modes of notifications available on the web version of canvas they are

You will need to go to the options using the three lines at the top left corner, followed by manage students which would allow you to choose the learner whose notifications you want to control.

You can set notifications to alert you in the ways mentioned on the website. The course grades are redundant as they are not calculated properly in this instance of canvas. It is also worth considering that due to the different weightings of different assignments similar marks might mean completely different things!
